  1. I used this snorkeling in Grand Cayman and it was fantastic!

Easy to use, make sure you read instructions and seal the gasket properly. Don’t be afraid to handle it, just put a little sealant between your forefinger and thumb and coat it well. Getting the gasket in is easy, taking it out…well…to be honest, is not. Look for the little area to stick something in-between the plastic housing and the ring to pop it out (it’s not easy, maybe a plastic tooth pick?). Do not use anything that will damage the ring or the housing!, if you do, be very careful. Don’t forget the diffuser! It works great with the flash. Also, keep the diffuser and hold it with your hand if you must but use it to take better portraits, the flash is simply to much and this will make your portraits much better (look at the skin tones after using it) I wish this camera had a way to clip this diffuser to it without the case. I didn’t buy the weights but wish I did. The camera floats easily, I would get it for next time. Also, learn the buttons well before you go, really get them in your memory, its not easy to remember them when you’re underwater and moving around.

  2. Bought this housing new in November 2005.In April I used it for the first time and it flooded on the first dive! Neither Amazon (since it is ouside the 30 day return policy) nor Canon will stand behind this product! Period! I got so much run around from Canon it was ridiculous. They wanted to “evaluate” the housing to determine if it was defective…DAH? They WOULD NOT tell me if I sent it back for the “evaluation” what the final resolution would be (refund, rework etc).

Coincidentally, another person on the same trip had the same housing…it flooded on their first dive too!!!!

Coincidence? No. Just terrible quality control and NO product support from Canon. DO NOT BUY CANON PRODUCTS!!!

  3. We purchased this underwater housing device for our recent trip to Hawaii, and we could not have been more pleased. We had been looking at underwater housing for our Nikon D80, but decide to go the less expensive route. You are able to take pictures and shoot video all while underwater with this device. We experienced no problems, and have fantastic underwater pictures. I would recommend that you read the instructions prior to use and follow them completely, people who have stated they do not like this product, in my opinion, did not follow the directions. One other thing, when you are finished using it, and if you use it in salt water, I would rinse/soak the entire housing device, (with the camera still inside)in a sink of cold water to remove the salt for about 10 mins. Once that has completed, remove the camera and case from sink and let dry, then open case to remove camera. Enjoy!

  4. i bought this originally for a caribean trip but i have found so many uses for it since. i snowboard and sail and do lots of outdoors stuff, all of which involve moisture.and we all know moisture is the bane of digital electronics. i would give this product 5 stars for meeting the requirements of use, and ease of use. the deduction fo rthe 5th star is solely on the fact its a little bulky also since the lense of the case is always out a few of my best picture have smears or droplets on the key parts. so with a little pre shot prep this can be avoided. but thers no true way to make it less bulky, but thats a small price to pay for something that will keep your camera safe and dry.

  5. Like any dive equipment, if you take care of it and use it properly, it will last you a long time and work great. That is particularly true of this item. I used it last month in Cancun and came up with awesome pictures. You have to take care of it though. Make sure there is no sand or hair in the o ring and that you get a good seal. My practice was I would prep the camera in my hotel prior to leaving and then leave it in the case until I was off the boat. That way I made sure everything stayed clean and dry. This is not a professional piece of equipment though. You can’t attach strobes and other fancy things. Just good old snap and shoot. Great overall product.
