DicaPac WP110 145X95mm Small Alfa Waterproof Digital Camera Case with Optical Lens

I bought this product to take some underwater pictures on a snorkeling trip. I used it with a canon SD450. This is my older camera. I didn’t want to risk my newer camera testing this product out for the first time. I am happy to say that it worked as advertised – which means it kept the water out and my camera dry and allowed me to take pictures with it underwater. A couple of things:
1. I was in some choppy water and had a hard time seeing my camera’s screen underwater at times in order to compose my shots. Of course this has nothing to do with the product itself. What I guess I am trying to say is that, getting reasonable underwater pictures is not a simple matter of point and shoot. You will need the time to play around while you are down there. So get familiar with operating the controls of your camera through the plastic etc.
2. The case will not fit your camera exactly unless you’ve really spent some time to position it in there exactly. If you just pop the camera in there it will tend to move around and it is very likely that the camera lens protector will crop your pictures unless you have it perfectly positioned.
All that said, I was happy that this product allowed me to get underwater pictures with my own digital camera. I got some decent pictures with it even though the Canon SD450 does not have an underwater mode. I look forward to trying it with my newer SD940IS which does have the underwater mode.

I had low expectations for this case and was mostly praying that my new camera wouldn’t get ruined. And this exceeded my expectations! Yay! Took it snorkeling in the Caribbean. It’s a bit annoying to get the camera into and out of the case. And it’s tricky to zoom through the plastic. But it works! Definitely better than spending $10+ on a disposable underwater camera.

I purchased the DicaPac WP-110 just before going on a trip to Hawaii. I have had my digital camera for three years so if it was going to get ruined I wouldn’t feel too bad. I tested mine in the sink before I trusted it with my camera.
I used it to snorkel with twice and it worked great both times. It is clumsy to move the zoom wheel in and out, but I didn’t need to do that very often anyway. I rolled up a small paper towel and inserted that into the package after the camera as another safety measure. No leaks at all! I’d recommend that you “burp” the package by letting the air out through the lens once you get the Velcro sealed and rolled up. That will get more air out of the case and you’ll be able to see the viewfinder better underwater.
Pros: Very cheap alternative to the regular underwater case (which runs over $300… more than the camera is worth)
Simple
Comes with a strap to put around your neck (leaves your arms free for swimming)
Cons: Difficult to use tiny camera controls
Need to take an initial picture before getting in the water to make sure there will be no black rim showing on the edge of the photo
Doesn’t work the best for rafting… it keeps the camera dry but you are constantly wiping droplets off the lens… it works best in full submersion

The camera case worked like a charm. I was able to capture moments underwater while my daughter snorkled. I would definetly recommend.

My Canon Powershot SD1000 stayed watertight during scuba diving to 20-25′ in the Bahamas and as a result was able to capture fairly high quality still and video. One has to be careful not to use nail when changing camera setting from still to video as this could leak water into the case.
